1) noted a half missing status window (where the song progress, etc is shown upon opening the control program

2) i can't stretch the size of the music choosing window

3) clicking the maximizing button from the small ver. doesn't return me to the music choosing box, which is the default behavior in iTunes (seems like they should be the same)

4) any reason i can't make an impromptu playlist? seems like if i can choose the music, it should be able to make me a list of the songs i would like to chose, even if it's not following the proper playlist format through iTunes.

5) uh oh. i closed the window and there's no apparent way to get it back.....

Thank you! I used to use iHam on iRye a number of years ago and was dismayed when the iTunes engine changed and all those hacks became defunct. Glad to see you working on this project, and really happy it works so well. I hope my notes are helpful and that you might be able to implement them.

Thanks a lot for the comments. I need a little more explanation in terms of what you mean by #1. Other than that, you have good suggestions, and while I can't promise I can do them all, I'll see what I can do and take a look at some of them.

Glad you like the app!

The display window is cut off at about the middle, and while the progress bar continues, the textual information is repositioned such that the rightmost time info is covered by the progress bar. i'm not sure what else i can tell you. i tried restarting the control program, to no effect.

Another thing,

the computer that is being controlled shuts off soon after I stop the play of music. It is continuing to count idle time and acts on that as soon as it can, instead of being held by the tunesconnect engine. in this case, i stopped play to make a phone call, and now i have to get up and wake the controlled device.

The display cut-off is not something I've ever observed. Any way you can post a screenshot?

As for Idle Time, that's difficult to control, and not necessarily something I want to foray into-- the last thing we want is TuneConnect accidentally taking over a Mac's idle time and making it so that it can no longer sleep without being restarted. There's some nasty hackish stuff that can be done via IOKit, I might take a look at it, but I'm afraid I can't really make it a priority. Sorry. I just set my Macs to never sleep automatically (unless on battery power), it's really quite an annoyance personally.

Anyway, let me just respond individually to each of your requests:

Resizable Music Chooser: This has always been the intent, but it's logistically a little difficult to handle with the way I layer views into my main window. Just before release, though, I set the groundwork in place to make this a smoother transition, so I should be able to get this done eventually.

Zoom Button Behavior: Granted, in iTunes, clicking the Zoom button on the mini-window brings you back to the music chooser. However, you must keep in mind that in iTunes, the playback window and the music chooser are one and the same. Behaviorally speaking, the proper transformation is between playback windows: clicking the zoom button from any window other than the mini-window brings up the mini-window; clicking the button from the mini-window brings up the main playback screen. This is why I've set it up this way. I don't intend on changing it, but I will give it some further thought, and discuss the matter with some usability folks.

Impromptu Playlists: TuneConnect Server has the capability, it's just a bit of a UI challenge. I can't promise this for the next version, as I've got bigger fish to fry, particularly in regards to what I do have for the Party Shuffle playlist. I always have intended, though, to implement something I call TCQ (read it: TC Queue), which lets you do just that. It's like the Party Shuffle playlist, only a separate entity.

Closed Window: Again, this is a usability issue I just kind of ignored and hoped would go away. :P I'm not sure what the proper behavior should be: allow the window to be reopened (which creates a handful of memory management conundrums), or simply have the application quit when the window is closed. I'll ask around.

Thanks again for all of your comments!

Oh, and I've just recently made a handful of improvements to the server code base. Artist/Album/Genre filter music browser-- definitely a possibility. :)

I spoke with my UI guru Andy Matuschak, and did a little thinking myself, and decided to change the zoom button behavior closer to what you said, just so you know. Expect an update within the week with some additional goodies.

All of what you asked for has been taken care of in 2.1 (just released), with the exceptions of creating impromptu playlists (a feature called TCQ, that's already in development), and the music browse feature. :) I've created a new feature request for it so you can subscribe and keep track of it.
